Carlos Orduña’s work conveys the penetrating energy and enigmatic spirit of his native Mexico. Folkloric colors and sculptural rendering enliven personal themes that use the strength of the equestrian subject in unique fashion. Genre painting and portraits are also an important part of Orduña’s body of work. Uniting all of his themes are skilled paint handling and perceptive, strong draftsmanship. His exhibition record begins more than 40 years ago, with shows in Mexico City, at the cultural center of the French Alliance, the Ford Motor Company, the Coyocan Cultural Plaza of Mexico, and the intercontinental Hotel In Los Angeles. Orduña’s record of study is equally impressive, having worked in Mexico with Maestro Jorge Gonzales Camarena and in Los Angeles with acclaimed Mexican muralist Armando Campero, where their work can be found. Orduña’s work can be found in many institutional as well as private collections in North America, and Mexico. More work by Carlos Orduña Barrera is on view at Jean Marc Gallery.
